First Eagle’s Core Values
Stability
Attempting to compete in short-term market movements can increase overall portfolio volatility. We attempt to consistently generate positive performance, independent of broad market conditions. We believe that preserving capital in all market environments is the foundation to producing absolute returns and growing wealth.
Consistency
We seek to consistently generate absolute returns over the long term without regard to industry benchmarks. After all, it is our view that relative performance does not always provide downside protection.
Discipline
Quality businesses trading at a discount to our estimation of their intrinsic value is where we look to place our client’s assets. We believe that we add value through our investment team’s disciplined approach and expertise in careful security analysis and selection. Our first question is always, “What can go wrong?”
Caution
We create a well diversified portfolio through cautious security selection with an emphasis on risk aversion. Using a bottom-up value approach to investing, we look for companies through independent, fundamental research without concern for top-down allocations. We always read the footnotes and the fine print.
